Bernard E. Benson, CPA
Bernard E. Benson, CPA, now managing partner of Benson, Piombo & Company, CPA's, graduated from the University of San Francisco. He began his career in public accounting in December 1974 as a staff accountant for the firm of Peat, Marwick, Mitchell and Co. (now KPMG Peat Marwick). While he worked for Peat, Marwick, Mr. Benson had a variety of audit assignments for banks, savings and loans, property and casualty insurance companies and broker/dealers in the securities industry.
He joined Rich, Benson & Company in September 1976 and worked there until he formed his own accounting firm in June 1978. While practicing as a sole proprietor, Mr. Benson developed a clientele which he merged with that of Benson, Benson & Company, CPA's, in May, 1981. Mr. Benson has more than 36 years of public accounting experience.

Following a community vote a benefit assessment district will be formed under CA Proposition 218 to finance the cost of improving the medians from Union Street near Whole Foods to Biscayne Drive in Peacock Gap.
The benefit assessment district was approved by voters on June 22,2011.
Daniel F. Piombo, CPA
Daniel F. Piombo, CPA graduated from Sonoma State University in 1995 with a Bachelors of Arts in management with an emphasis in accounting. He began his career in public accounting with Pisenti & Brinker, LLP while attending Golden Gate University where he achieved his Master of Science in Taxation.
In 1998, Dan moved to San Diego where he worked for a local firm for a short time before joining the national firm of RSM McGladrey. While working at RSM McGladrey, he had a variety of tax, audit and consulting assignments in various industries.
In 2002, Dan moved back to the San Francisco Bay Area to join Benson, Benson & Company.
As of January 1, 2007, Dan became a partner at the firm, changing the firms name to Benson, Piombo & Company.

William E. Stewart, CPA
Benson, Piombo & Company, CPAs is pleased to announce that William E. Stewart, CPA has merged his tax accounting practice with ours. Bill has had a long and distinguished accounting career with more than 40 years of experience working with national and local CPA firms. Gregory L. Benson, CPA
Greg graduated from the University of Colorado at Boulder in May, 2005. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration and an emphasis in accounting. Upon graduation he was hired by a national insurance company to audit workers’ compensation policies.
In August, 2006 he began his career in public accounting with a local accounting firm in Marin County where he gained experience in income taxation for individuals, partnerships, corporations and fiduciaries and assurance services in an array of industries.
In October 2008 he was hired by a San Francisco CPA firm whose work highlighted taxation in real estate, small to mid-sized closely held businesses, hedge funds and high net worth individuals.
Greg transitioned to another San Francisco CPA firm in January of 2011 where there was an emphasis on individual income taxation and multi-state tax issues before his move to Benson, Piombo & Company, CPA’s in January 2012. He has been a CPA since February 2010 and is currently working towards a Masters in Taxation at Golden Gate University.
His exuberance for public accounting is exceeded only by his passion long distance running. During 2011, Greg completed three major marathons, the Last Chance 50 mile race in Granite Bay, CA, and the 50 kilometer North Face Endurance Challenge in the Marin Headlands. He aspires to one day run in the Western States 100.

Taryn Peterson, Office Manager
Taryn Peterson graduated from John A. Logan College, located in Southern Illinois, in 2000 with an Associate’s Degree in Liberal Arts. She is currently attending Golden Gate University to earn her Bachelor’s of Science in Business with concentration in accounting. After moving to California in 2000 Taryn spent her first four years working in the banking industry as a Savings Operations Coordinator. She then moved on to become an Office Manager, which gave her valuable experience in bookkeeping and human resources. On January 18, 2008, Taryn joined Benson, Piombo & Company as an Administrative Assistant and in due course became the Office Manager.
Some of Taryn’s responsibilities at Benson, Piombo & Company include but are not limited to:
Performing the firm’s entire accounting function, including administration of all accounts payable and accounts receivable, assembling all of the firm’s clients’ tax returns and arranging their delivery, researching and performing specialized client projects, and assisting with individual tax return preparation.
When Taryn is not at work, she enjoys being a new mom and spending time with her family and daughter, Madilyn. She is also passionate about the arts, and enjoys painting and making jewelry. Every year Benson, Piombo & Company sponsors a square at the Italian Street Painting Festival in San Rafael for Taryn to spend two days making artwork on the street. It’s one of her favorite times of the year.
